Second Struga conference organised by IRAM
was once again concerned with the general subject Contemporary Trends in
Musicology and Ethnomusicology. This title proved to be very adequate for
the variety of papers we have received from the contributors, although
we could say that ethnomusicology and digital technology for sound processing,
were the dominant areas of interest. The freedom of the subject selection
was in accordance with the individuality of the scientific researches in
the extremely particularised and segmented world of contemporary musicology
and ethnomusicology.
There was general agreement among
the participants of the conference that this approach made the conference
very interesting, inovative, provocative and challenging.
The conference was part of The Struga Music Autumn, taking place
at Ohrid Lake, 19-21 September, 2003. This year we had bigger number of
participants, who presented 12 papers.
The Conference was organised with
the support from EU Tempus program and SCOPES program of the Swiss National
Foundation.
We would like to thank Kim Sargeant,
the Associate Director from Koninkljik Conservatorium from Den Haag, and
Kenneth Robbins the Director of the School of the Perofrming Arts
of Louisiana Tech University, for their assistance in the proofreading
of the English version.
