Contemporary Trends in Musicology and Ethnomusicology

The second conference organised by IRAM was concerned with Contemporary trends in musicology and ethnomusicology.  It was organised in co-operation with The Struga Music Autumn, as one of the three sessions of this international conference, which took place at the beautiful Ohrid Lake, 20-22 September 2002.
The IRAM session consisted of the presentation of 10 papers, dealing with very diverse subjects ?from æsthetics, theory and methodology of music, to piano performance, specific artistic projects and ethnomusicology.
This very broad approach was mainly a result of the experience of the invited participants: they are all related to the actual IRAM projects TEMPUS and SCOPES. Thus, along with the Macedonian researchers included in these projects, the international speakers were from the UK, Switzerland and the USA.
This book presents the ten papers from the session, in their English version (the originals were in Macedonian, English and German), as an attempt at a distribution and dissemination of the results of the IRAM international projects. Also we have included a CD, with samples from the Firfov Collection, which was mentioned in some of the papers (Kostic, Ringli). The digitisation of this collection was one of the largest projects for preservation of the cultural heritage, undertaken in IRAM in the last two years.
As usual, all the papers will be included in the IRAM site at  www.mmc.edu.mk.
We would like to thank Kim Sargeant, the Associate Director from Koninklijk Conservatorium from Den Haag, who was also present at this conference, for his meticulous proof-reading of the English version.
